Yahve-Jire Children’s Foundation

Our Mission Committee is leading our church into new international waters. This past year we have become very active in helping a small orphanage in Crois des Bouquet, Haiti. The Yahve-Jire Children’s Foundation is currently housing 14 children who are either forsaken by their families, were orphaned as a result of the political unrest in Port-au-Prince, or whose families are not able to care for them. The Foundation is run by five incredibly Christian individuals who truly are living out the mission of Christ by providing a home, food, academic education and Christian training for the children. They have a dream of building a larger orphanage with dorms to house 100 children, a library, and a residence for a pastor, and dorms for mission teams to come to Haiti. We have been blessed to have met the founders of the Foundation and the children. Our congregation has generously given financially to the children through our Endowment Fund and “buying” medical supplies, tuition, uniforms, and water for the orphanage through our Alternative Gift Fair this past year. We also assist in paying the tuition for one of the founders who is attending Covenant College in Georgia. We are partnering with The Yahve-Jire Children’s Foundation, Clayton Presbyterian Church, Davie Street Presbyterian Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church and Fieldstone Presbyterian Church to share our love and ministry with these beautiful children so that they, too, will know the love of our Lord in Heaven.

WIHN

Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) is a joint effort of a number of churches to address the needs of homeless families. For one week in each quarter of the year, WBPC is host to as many as five families who call our facilities home. Volunteers are needed to prepare meals, serve as evening and overnight hosts, set up beds and furniture on Sunday afternoon and take it all down the following Sunday morning, drive guests to and from the WIHN Day Center on Method Road, and more. The Day Center can also use volunteer help.

Avent West Children's Mentoring/Kid's Cafe

A joint program with the Food Bank and the Wake County Public Schools, Kid's Cafe provides fun, a nutritious meal, and tutoring to at risk children. The program meets here every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 4:30 when school is in session. Each week, volunteers from our church tutor approximately 30 children.  Any volunteers would be welcome to participate in this ministry. The program also runs at Avent Ferry Methodist on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Volunteers are appreciated there as well.

Stephen Ministry

This is a one on one caring ministry where Stephen Ministers are assigned to "care receivers." Stephen Ministers go through an extensive training program, and meet regularly for continuing education and peer supervision once training is completed. Stephen Ministers are asked to make a two year commitment to the program. There are currently nine trained Stephen Ministers at our church, but there is need for more. Perhaps this is a place you could show Christ's love to the world.

Urban Ministries' Foodbags

Our church collects prepackaged food bags to be given out by Urban Ministries. People are encouraged to bring individual items for the bags as well as completed bags. A bag consists of the following items: 14.5 oz. can green beans, 14.5 oz. can carrots, 14.5 oz. can tomatoes, 16 oz. can applesauce, 1 lb. grits, 1 lb. rice, 1 lb. dried beans, box macaroni & cheese, powdered milk, tuna or other canned meat, peanut butter, and cereal. There is a special need for food bag items in summer when the end of our Wednesday evening meals makes it easy to forget the food bag program.

Meals on Wheels

Each week, the Meals on Wheels program provides hot and healthy meals to the elderly and shut-ins in our congregation.
